09 Jan Benefits of CBD Oil
Cannabidiol is one of the 104 cannabinoids found in marijuana plants. Unlike the psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which imparts a feeling of being “high,” CBD is not psychoactive and therefore is a preferred option for people dealing with pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana. CBD oil which is extracted CBD from the cannabis plant has several health benefits.
1. Pain relief
Using marijuana for pain relief dated back as far as 2900 B.C., a practice that is once again being revived thanks to scientific interventions. It has been observed that components of marijuana, such as CBD, help alleviate pain by impacting the body’s endocannabinoid receptor activity. CBD, especially in combination with TCH (as for instance in the oral spray Sativex), has been shown to be effective in dealing with muscle spasms and pain associated with diseases like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
2. Reducing anxiety and depression
Anxiety and depression are common, but the WHO lists severe mental health disorders as two of the top contributors to disability globally. Pharmaceutical treatments for these disorders (such as benzodiazepines) tend to be addictive, leading to substance abuse, as well as causing a number of adverse side effects. Studies on both animals and humans have shown that CBD oil has antidepressant-like effects, as well as proving to be a safe option for the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, PTSD, and the like.
3. Alleviation of cancer-related symptoms
Although there are several medications available for cancer treatment, they come along with inefficiency or side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and pain. Administering cannabinoid medication, such as oral sprays containing both CBD and TCH, on people experiencing cancer-related pain has shown a significant reduction of the same, as well as reducing chemotherapy-related nausea; concentrated CBD also induces cell death in human breast cancer cells.
4. Acne reduction
Acne is a widespread skin condition that occurs in over 9% of the population worldwide and is usually caused by a wide range of factors such as genetics, bacteria, sebum overproduction, etc. Recent studies suggest that CBD oil may help combat acne owing to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum production from the sebaceous glands in the skin. Additionally, CBD oil was also observed to prevent generation of pro-acne agents like inflammatory cytokines.
5. Several Other Potential Benefits
Although more studies are needed on the effects of CBD oil on various health issues, it is thought to be beneficial in treating more issues than the ones listed above. Some studies show that CBD has antipsychotic effects, helps with substance abuse treatment, has anti-tumor effects, and also helps prevent diabetes, along with a wide range of other issues.
